![]() Background and history Ī citation is a reference to a published or unpublished source (not always the original source). ![]() Exceptions might occur when papers are withdrawn from circulation. Īs citation links are meant to be permanent, the bulk of a citation graph should be static, and only the leading edge of the graph should change. Such "backward" citations seem to constitute less than 1% of the total number of links. The timing of asynchronous updates to bibliographies may lead to edges that apparently point backward in time. This is not always the case in practice, since an academic paper goes through several versions in the publishing process. This means that an ideal citation graph is not only directed but acyclic that is, there are no loops in the graph. In principle, each document should have a unique publication date and can only refer to earlier documents. However, there is a long history of creating citation databases, also known as citation indexes, so there is a lot of information about such problems. Furthermore, citation errors can occur at any stage of the publishing process. ![]() There is no standard format for the citations in bibliographies, and the record linkage of citations can be a time-consuming and complicated process. They are predicted to become more relevant and useful in the future as the body of published research grows. Ĭitation graphs have been utilised in various ways, including forms of citation analysis, academic search tools and court judgements. In this example, document b cites document d, and is cited by document a.Ī citation graph (or citation network), in information science and bibliometrics, is a directed graph that describes the citations within a collection of documents.Įach vertex (or node) in the graph represents a document in the collection, and each edge is directed from one document toward another that it cites (or vice versa depending on the specific implementation).

If there's a lot of movement and action, you get a clear line across your display, and if the game is running at 60fps on a 60Hz display the tearing can remain in roughly the same location on your display for a long time. The problem now is that this can lead to tearing-where the next frame arrives in the middle of a screen update. Now when a frame is ready from the engine, it will show up on your display. One way of combating micro stutter is to disable vsync, but that has its own drawbacks. Neither of those is desirable, especially on a fast PC. Oops, there's some stutter.ĭepending on the game, this can be a frequent occurrence, and some people end up preferring a constant 30fps rather than aiming for 60fps and getting micro stutter. However, if there's a slight hiccup in the engine-a new texture needs to be loaded, or a new model, or maybe just some other background task-you can end up with a frame arriving 0.001 seconds too late. If an engine puts in a hard 60fps cap, it tries to have a new frame ready for each 60Hz screen refresh, and often other parts of the engine 'slow down' so that the frames don't finish too early, physics and netcode don't get messed up, etc. That's a reason to prefer much higher frame rate caps. Micro stutter occurs when the frame rate fluctuates just enough that you might average 60fps, but some frames come a bit early and others come a bit late. If it's not, the display shows the same frame as the previous update, giving you 30fps, and if a new frame is ready you get 60fps. With a 60Hz monitor, the screen updates every 1/60 of a second, and either a new frame is available in time or it's not. ![]() Back in 2013, AMD discovered some driver optimizations that could help reduce microstutter. Lucius returns to the Walker's residence, where he manages to get Ivy into the house before she is attacked by one of the creatures. Shortly thereafter, the alarm is sounded, and the creatures in the woods are said to have entered the village. Before Lucius leaves, Ivy informs him that now that her sister is to be married, she is free to have suitors court her. Ivy says that Lucius is brave for wanting to go beyond the village, but she feels his actions are unwise. Ivy explains that in the time that has passed, her sister has decided to marry another young man in the town. Later that evening, Lucius visits the Walkers' house, where he has a conversation with Ivy. The sound of something nearby catches his attention, but all that is there when he looks are some wavering branches. Unseen by the others, he steps over the boundaries, and wanders a ways into the woods. The next day, Lucius has patrol duty along the borders of the village. Lucius wants his mother to open the box and reveal her past secrets, but she refuses this as well. ![]() ![]() Each of the elders has a box, that contains remnants of the elder's pasts before they established Covington. Lucius also makes note of a black wood box that his Mother has, which is locked. Upset by these proclamations, Lucius explains that he sees that his mother eyes Ivy Walker's father Edward (William Hurt) in a 'certain way,' even though he is married. Lucius' second request is denied, and his mother Alice Hunt (Sigourney Weaver) advises him to stay home and forget about the outside world, claiming it to be a dangerous place that took the life of his father. This causes Lucius to grow more determined, and he again goes to the elders to request again to travel to "the towns." Lucius believes that if the creatures allowed Noah into the woods without causing him harm, they will do the same to him. They do not grow in the village, and Lucius believes that Noah has traveled into the woods, and has not been harmed by the creatures in it. One day, while in a small area near the border to the woods, Noah presents Ivy with some red berries. Blind since she was very young, Ivy claims that Lucius has a 'color' around him, that she can sense. Lucius has been childhood friends with Kitty's youngest sister, named Ivy (Bryce Dallas Howard). When Kitty Walker (Judy Greer) comes to Lucius in hopes he will marry her, he refuses her request. He keeps to himself, rarely speaking to most people. Lucius himself is considered a rather strange young man by the village. His request is quickly denied by the village elders. After one of the elders named August Nicholson (Brendan Gleeson) loses his son to an untreatable disease, one of the town's young people named Lucius Hunt (Joaquin Phoenix) goes to the village elders, and requests to leave the village and travel to "the towns," in hopes of finding medicines and other remedies that may prevent further losses, or possibly cure the mental ailments of one of the town's other young persons, named Noah Percy (Adrien Brody). ![]() A boundary was set up around the village, along with warnings on etiquette and colors to wear regarding keeping the creatures at bay. Many years earlier, the town elders and the creatures reached an understanding that the villagers would not go into the woods, and the creatures would not enter the village. The woods that surround the village are off limits to all the villagers because mysterious creatures live there.
